Thames Tideway East
Tideway is a £3.8bn upgrade to London’s Victorian sewer system. Construction to build the 25km Thames Tideway tunnel operates across 24 sites throughout the city. Works included brownfield site remediation, ground improvements, marine cofferdam installations, diaphragm walling to shafts, TBM procurement, tunnelling works and associated structures and landscaping.
GVE became involved on the East Section Contract (2017-2019) working for the Joint Venture Contractor on an NEC3 contract. We provided a change manager for the main tunnel sites carrying out contract administration and management of compensation events through pricing to implementation of additional sums and movement of key dates and completion.
In 2020, GVE provided a senior surveyor for commercial management of the main tunnel drive site located at Chambers Wharf, Bermondsey. This role included commercial management of packages to support tunnelling activities including close out of disputed commercial matters with subcontractors.
From the beginning of 2021 until the conclusion of 2023, GVE provided a second senior surveyor to join the Tunnels team looking after works packages for activities that included the tunnel drive, TBM removal, tunnel cleaning and secondary lining for both main tunnel and the Greenwich connection tunnel. Commercial responsibilities included day-to-day commercial management of subcontractors and suppliers, monthly cost reporting and forecasting of critical works activities until all tunnel-related tasks were successfully completed by December 2023.
