Celebrating GVE’s 20th year

We are celebrating 20 years of GVE! To mark our 20th year, we’re unveiling a fresh new logo that represents our continued evolution and growth. Throughout 2025, we will be looking at our past, present and the future to see how our business has evolved and led us to where we are today and focus on what we hope to achieve over the next 20 years.

20 years of commercial support

Founded in 2005 by Steve Goodwin, Richard Vigar and Paul Edwards, GVE is celebrating a significant milestone in 2025 - providing quantity surveying and commercial management consultancy services to main contractors and specialist contractors for 20 years. A big thank you to Richard and Paul for their appreciated contributions - also to Alan Vincent who replaced Richard as a director back in 2012.

Looking back on some of our achievements, we are extremely proud to have been a part of some of the largest civil engineering projects and infrastructure upgrades in the UK - the O2, Crossrail, Olympic Park, Blackfriars Bridge, HS2, AMP Southern Water framework and Thames Tideway East to name but a few.

Building a successful team

We are grateful to the commitment and contribution of our dedicated and long-standing team - with some of our consultant surveyors being with GVE since the early days. Luke Parham was GVE’s first employee in 2006. As a consultant surveyor, he progressed his career through the company, gaining qualifications, skills, and a great deal of specialist expertise on major projects for tier 1 contractor commercial teams to become a senior member of the GVE team. In 2021, Luke was appointed as a director of GVE Commercial Solutions Ltd and continues to contribute his commercial expertise to major infrastructure projects in various change and commercial management roles - whilst also jointly managing the business as part of GVE’s leadership team.

Our managing director, Steve Goodwin is the only founding director of GVE to lead the company throughout its 20-year history, successfully growing the business since its inception in 2005. Back then, Steve, along with the other two founders, Richard and Paul who were friends and work colleagues at the time, happened to believe they had what it takes to run a QS consultancy. All three were incredibly busy from day one with one of Steve’s first GVE projects being the West Malling Bypass with Birse. Today, Steve is a commercial consultant, an NEC advisor/trainer, expert practitioner, a contract claims specialist and is the commercial and contract lead for his clients in adjudication management and commercial/risk management.

Evolution and growth

Whilst staying true to its roots in civil engineering quantity surveying, GVE has continued to adapt and evolve to an ever-changing business environment. In 2021, we launched programming consultancy services to ensure our clients could access our programming expertise and delay analysis for their projects. We recently welcomed programming lead and associate director, Jaimie Blagg, to our team to oversee and develop our planning, programme controls, and risk disciplines further - exciting times ahead for GVE programming.

In 2022, we diversified further by launching GVE Commercial Solutions (Building) Ltd with Matt Clark as its managing director. Matt has over 30 years’ industry experience in commercial management and quantity surveying in the built environment spanning healthcare, education, residential and mixed-use building projects. Matt specialises in JCT contracts advising clients in risk management, claims and disputes, negotiations, mediation and adjudication. This collaboration of construction and contract consultant companies expanded GVE’s reach, providing the opportunity to assist a wider range of clients on regional and national construction projects.

2025… and beyond!

Today, GVE has a fantastic and growing team of consultants and members of office-based support staff and continues to provide civil engineering, building and programming resources from our base in the Southeast. In 2024, we were pleased to receive industry-recognition as a top 150 consultant by the CIOB’s Building magazine and have been recognised as one of the 50 fastest growing businesses in Kent by featuring in the 2025 MegaGrowth 50 rankings. To be recognised by the construction industry and to receive a thriving-business accolade within our 20th year inspires us to keep building on our success, delivering innovative commercial solutions and looking to the future of GVE.
